About Us

The Division of Health Improvement consists of 160 staff members located in 9 field offices across New Mexico with a central office in Santa Fe. Our staff have a variety of professional and educational backgrounds and experiences. Many are licensed as psychologists, nurses, physicians, life safety code engineers, architects, social workers and other related fields, who hold bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.

We work closely with key stakeholders (Executive and Legislative policy makers; providers and contractors; other state, local, and federal government agencies; advocacy groups; professional organizations; provider associations; various task forces and commissions; and the tax paying public at large) to assure safety and quality of care and to improve health care services.

New Mexico's health care facilities and community-based programs provide quality care and safe services, resulting in satisfied consumers.

Our Mission

The Division of Health Improvement assures safety and quality care in New Mexico's health care facilities and community-based programs in collaboration with consumers, providers, advocates and other agencies. DHI promotes continuous quality improvement through:

Conducting surveys and program reviews and taking appropriate actions; The identification of trends and patterns, and; The provision of technical assistance and training.

Our Goal

The goal of the Division of Health Improvement is to assure compliance with standards of care in hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities and community programs through various quality improvement activities.

Our Objectives

Prevent/reduce abuse, neglect, and exploitation through timely action by the Division of Health Improvement. Improve the quality and frequency of healthcare facility and community program reviews. Promote best practices in healthcare facilities and community programs through training and technical assistance.

Our customers are individuals receiving healthcare services, their families and their communities.
